Three Peaches and a Butterfly

Adriaen Coorte’s Three peaches on a stone ledge with a Red Admiral butterfly (circa 1695) is one of my favorite paintings and I feel it too wonderful to keep to myself.  I thought I’d share it with you today, so you could fall in love with its beautiful simplicity too. It’s hard to put a price on art work, but William Noortman did when he purchased the painting for a private collection for £2,057,250.

Adriaen Coorte’s still life exhibition passed through the National Gallery in 2003, but alas, don’t think this particular piece was in the collection.

What’s in the National Gallery now??
