Ian Baguskas: From the Atlantic

We’re down the coast of the Atlantic saying goodbye to the last of the tropical depression and during my time staying out of the wind and rain, I came across the talented Photographer Ian Baguskas. This emerging Artist displays a beautiful glow of everyday life and romantically captures the anthropology in the American landscape. Best of all, for the art lovers out there, he’s conservatively priced, not an easy thing to come by with the egos of the biz. Here are a few pieces I’ve enjoyed as of late. For more works by Ian Baguskas visit Jen Bekman Gallery NYC.

Floral Mini: Gardening in Style.

I love little Mini’s in the Garden.  A free flowing floral is exactly the chic comfort I look for when I’m digging in the dirt, planting cabbage and sweet potatoes. Sweet Potato plants are one of my favorite annuals. Not only do the rich contrasting colors of the deep purple vines with the brilliant lime green leaves look fantastic together, but they grow and spread like wild fire.

Halston Heritage: Go Green

I’m always look for an excuse to wear my Green Halston. Ever since I saw Carry wear this dress on Sex and the City the Movie, I fell in love. It’s one of my favorite staples. I saved and splurged for this little number that was worth every penny. I know when you think staple, you think black or neutral, but I have worn this get up more than any little black dress. I love the style because it’s incredibly comfortable and chic. I like rich, bright colors for staples. They are classic and eye turning at the same time. It’s good to invest in a bright dress. Here are some other fun investments.

Other Picks: blue slinky Halston // green criss cross Halston // green ruffle Halston // Icy sparkle earrings //rhinestone necklace // icy stone necklace // colored stone necklace

Ulla von Brandenburg: Theater Fabric Installation

Here is a little Art inspiration for your day by Ulla von Brandenburg, a native of Germany who currently resides  and works in Paris. (Not a bad life, I’d say) She has a large breadth of work and is in part influenced by film and performance art, but these pieces in particular, I just love! The hues of  the drapery are as rich as a painting and the folds remind me of a lush fabric I can wrap myself in and roll around. The combination of wooden elements, mixed with rope, placement of light and the gigantic theater curtains is breathtaking.

Memory Lane: The Solace of Wine Country

Similar look: White Citizen Jeans //  Free People Lace dress // Wedges // bag (steal) //bucket bag (splurge)

Before we lived out in the country, we used to find solace in quick trips out to wine country to relax and smell the fresh green air (and of course a little tipsy glass is always a treat). Recently, we decided to take a trip down memory lane and revisit an area we used to escape to on a whim. What used to take us over an hour, is now in our backyard, but it’s been over a year since we visited. Sometimes a little trip next door is all it takes to be refreshed.

Eric Fischl: Great American Nude Painter

I love these beach scenes by Eric Fishl. They have a large dose of iconic American vitality and yet remind me a lot of the European Coastal beach towns. One of my favorite being Sitges, Spain, which I visited with my husband, sister and friends some years back. His pieces create a life I want to frequent and a place where I certainly want to people watch. The strokes and palette remain true to the light of the coast and the humor in his works keep me captivated, yet searching for more.

He is known, in large part, as one of America’s greatest nude painters because of his demonstration of the active human anatomy. The smooth movement of the strokes gives the figures beauty and magnetism. Here are some examples of his dynamic watercolors.

Lazy Days: Make the most of them

image via jvke

In our house today is Saturday. Our schedules are always wacky and forever changing. Since has June begun, I’ve been off and running. My days as of late are filled with traveling here and there, leaving footprints and lost bangles at every turn and two more trips on the way. I’ve been in and out of the water, (my second home in the summer months) and I’m looking forward to a lazy Saturday/Thursday at home. Magazines and books to catch up on, a giveaway to get ready for, a cozy swing with my name on it and  some style inspiration for my leisure.

Make the most of your day!

Piet Mondrian: Design inspiration

I’ve been staring at the house across the street for years and thought you all might like it too. The Beach Bungalow is inspired by one of the most influential, iconic Artist of the 20th Century, Piet Mondrian. Mondrian tested limitations by simplifying color and structure. His radical works forever changed the design and artistic world. This Mondrian inspired beach bungalow, although understated and quaint, creates a wall of impact with it’s modern design.

Maniera: Walk in the waves

Where there’s a will, there’s a way and after all my daydreaming of sand and ocean last week, I had to make it happen. Off I went to the beach and of course it was in the 60’s! I was raised in the sandy beaches of the South, where the water is almost never cold, especially not in June! The thing is, my closest getaway now is the beaches of the Northeast where there is a little more chill in the air for an early morning walk. After the sun is up and out, the water feels wonderful, but early in the morning, too cold for these southern bones.

So… this time, I got smart…Maniera Rain Boots! Um…Hello. I’m sure many of you have thought of this before. This is a first for me and making my experience so much richer.  More time in the water and less time on the sand. I’ll do anything to keep my toes as close to the water as possible, once above 60 that is. These boots are amazing because they are lined with faux fur, so they were incredibly warm in the icy water and completely adorable. The handmade rubber is so soft that when I walked with the water across my feet, they felt weightless.

Luxury Cabanas: bring the beach home

image via Bruno no. 6

Came across this lovely beach cabana, which if you’re not beach front, would be really awesome by the pool or two facing one another in the back yard. I’m keen on putting lovely pieces of furniture in places that don’t necessarily make sense. While they’re meant for the sand, they can be really fabulous somewhere else. Placing them in a grassy knoll with a view will create an interesting space and draw attention to a an otherwise normal piece of artistry.

Contempo Mobile: water front day dreams

Art. Fashion. Camping. ?? Well, contemporary mobile camping. With warm weather finally here all I can think about is how much I love being near the water. Beach, lake, river, even a creek, I love them all. If there’s water, I’m there. A house on the water is my current obsession, but here’s a pretty fun, chic way to hipster your ride to the water.
