I wanted to share one of my most important moments. I just celebrated 8 years with the sweet love of my life. Here’s where we were 8 years ago. If I had to do it all over again, I’d still wear a baby blue sash. Baby blue fills the heart with love and laughter. That’s what my little boys believe anyway.
After time passes and years go on, when the party is over, it’s still fun to celebrate year after year.

images via Emil Lukas
Emil Lukas is a mixed media artist from Stockertown Pennsylvania who is most commonly known for his beautiful, delicate thread paintings. Thread isn’t just used in fabric with this evolutionary artist who combines the thread and larvae to create this powerful array of artistic movement. I love his work because it is an example of how the decorative fine arts take on a scientific approach. “The work is about understanding what’s already in your shop, what’s right next to you, and experimenting with its nature.” says Lukas. -elledecor
Larvae process of painting:
The artist releases larvae into a sealed, prepared, environment where moisture, light, ink and paint color are controlled. As the larvae travel across the surface, they interact with the paint and ink, creating random and sinewy lines. Lukas establishes the context; however, it is the larvaes movement that produces the marks the traces of nature, the abstract remains of passage. via Sperone Westwater.

I’m so excited! I recently got my invitation to luckyFABB conference. Now I can see what the behind the scenes Fash Blogger world is like in NYC. What to wear, who’s wearing what, all the glitz and jazz of NYC blogging. Time is ticking until the train leaves the station, so I’m racing to choose my outfit options. Here are four possible bootie options.
FYI: Baublebar is starting a contest RIGHT NOW for a prize of $250. They are seeking a monochromatic pin board with at least 3 of their baubles. Click here for more details.

I found this beautiful contemporary home built in 1965 by Architect Charles Gwathmey. I’m sharing it with you because this cutting edge residence, he built originally for his parents, is still on the high end of style almost 50 years later. The sleek lines and innovative architecture captures the essence of modern. What looks to be a Mondrian inspired home, is a glowing masterpiece when the sun goes down. The home radiates beauty with light spilling out of the tall glass windows and doors. Gwathmey passed in 2009 and it is said that his widow now resides in the Amagansett, New York home. -AD

Some of my favorite days are the impromptu happy hours and events that arise out of the blue. This was the perfect example and I had just the perfect last minute dress to start my weekend of festivities. I love this Rachel Pally number because it’s casual and elegance wrapped in hot pink allure. I was on the fence for the perfect shoe. I went for flats, but initially was going for a Wow with Leopard print heels. Alas, I wasn’t sure what was in store, so the flats it was.

Since dipping is all the rage, all I needed was a little red & white chalk paint and dirty old stool. I now have a hip new side stool/table in about 30 min.
Materials:
old stool
2 paint colors
brush
bucket
blue tape
I love the dipped look, but I want something a little more mod, less rustic. I wanted to go a bit further than just dipping, so I taped off the bottom legs and painted the top portion red. Then, dipped the bottom legs in a bucket full of white paint, almost to where the red stopped. I like the effect of the white dripping down the legs, so that a portion of the unpainted raw wood is showing.
I don’t take these projects too seriously. If you mess up, the stool is already better than it was before. Just sand and start over.

If you have a fascination with chairs, as I do, here’s an exhibition not to miss.
Gerrit Rietveld – The Revolution of Space
Ends 16 September 2012, the Vitra Design Museum presents “Gerrit Rietveld – The Revolution of Space”. The Dutchman Gerrit Rietveld (1888-1964) was one of the most important designers and architects of the 20th century.
Today his work is primarily associated with his two most famous designs, which have become icons of modernism: the Red-Blue Chair (1918/1923) and the Rietveld-Schröder House (1924). But this exhibition shows that Rietveld’s oeuvre contains many more facets that deserve to be rediscovered.

I found this beautiful photograph a couple weeks ago and it has stayed with me day after day. I love everything about it! The happiness, the style, the freedom, the ukulele. If I could envision the perfect day with a life long best friend or sister, this would be it. My Sis and I have had many a day on a catamaran and it never gets old. If only this is how we could live every day. This beautiful image is from Maui Maka photography and there are many more moving images. To view, visit their website.

Here a sweet preview of a beautiful little apartment designed just perfectly to escape into your dreams.
There are sleek elements I have added to my own home, such as the faux fur rug, which lies in my breakfast nook and the transparent abc home bubble light which lies above. Adjacent, I have the bar stool design of the table chairs and I’m looking for more lovely details to add to my digs. We also have radiant heat, which is a challenging aesthetic to design around. Good use of the space, which is also safe, is to put a floating shelf above the heater to display artwork, without covering the heater.
I love the brick design over the breakfast window.

Yesterday I took a little 3 hour retreat to see some of my old friends, the antique shops. Here are some snaps at what I found. It’s an experience, as the “good ones” are about 45 minutes away, with a beautiful drive through horse country on the way. I love the whole experience of the hunt. The drive, the search, the finds. Antique, second-hand shopping helps me clear my head of all the sludge and muck in everyday life. I can disappear for a couple of hours into someone else’s world and come home to merge an old lifestyle with my new one. It’s oddly refreshing to incorporate someone else’s vintage funk into my Mom, Designer, Artist world. My tots love the crazy things I come home with. These vintage finds come from the sweet The Old Lucketts Store in the town of Lucketts in Leesburg, VA.

Sharon Sides – Stumps
With the world changing every second, life and our surroundings are unpredictable. Here is a design that holds true to preservation and leaves no devastating footprint. The Artist/Designer Sharon Sides has created these beautifully handcrafted pieces with a detailed industrial material and an organic style of artistry. As I’m sure you’ve been reading, I’m very intrigued by the marriage of concepts. I love the strict stability of the industrial brass structure and the soft, unpredictable, organic pattern of the etched natural elements. The pieces and design are beautifully orchestrated and delicately scanned and preserved.
